Camille Natale
Peace and Social Justice Award 2008
In honour of Camille Natale, a dedicated OSSTF activist who passed away on February 15, 2000, the District 12 STBU Executive is pleased to announce the presentation of the fifh annual Camille Natale Peace and Social Justice Award. The award will go to one TDSB secondary student who exemplifies the qualities that made Camille such a valued and beloved member of OSSTF.
The award, consisting of a certificate and a cheque for $250, will be presented to a student who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to and active involvement in, either at the school or community level, one or more of the following movements:
-aboriginal rights -defence of public education
-anti-globalization -economic and social justice
-anti-homophobia -solidarity with Third World struggles
-anti-poverty -the struggle against the corporate agenda
-anti-racism -union solidarity
-anti-war (peace) -women’s rights
To be eligible, the nominee must be a Toronto District School Board secondary student in any grade and nominated by an OSSTF District 12 STBU member, who will write a letter of recommendation, describing the nominee’s activities. Nominees are also asked to submit a letter outlining the reasons that they feel they meet the criteria for the award.
The winner will be chosen by the Political Action Committee of District 12 and the award will be presented at a special event to be held in June co-sponsored by the District 12 Human Rights Committee.
Nominations-by fax, e-mail or regular mail, must be received at the District 12 office by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2008.
