OSSTF DISTRICT 12

STATUS OF WOMEN COMMITTEE

8thANNUAL AWARDS DINNER

The District 12 Status of Women Committee is pleased to announce the 8th  Annual Awards Dinner, honouring Outstanding Female Educators and Students.  The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 1st, 2008 at the Montecassino Hotel & Convention Centre.  The event will start with registration and reception at 5:00pm, followed by dinner at 6:00pm.

Criteria for Selection of Award Winners – 2008 Guidelines

The Status of Women Committee provides many awards, with a wide geographical representation of winners.  The selection process enhances the significance of winning a Status of Women Award.

Award winners will be chosen according to the specifics of the category in which they are nominated, in addition to the following general criteria.

  1. There will be a limit to the number of awards.  The awards sub-committee will decide this initially, with a final determination by the selection committee.  The maximum will be 60, 30 Teachers/PSSP and 30 students.

  2. Preference will be given to nominees who have not won within the last 4 school years.

  3. The nomination should include a typewritten, double-spaced paragraph of about 200-300 words giving specific examples of the work/achievements that fit the specific category for which the student or OSSTF member is nominated.

à          Note:  Awards to students are not based on academic achievements

  1. The number of award winners from a single school and the number per category are considered with a view to supporting the equitable distribution of awards across the district within various categories.

Nomination and Selection

The awards ceremony recognizes and honours outstanding female Teachers; Professional Student Services Personnel and students in TDSB and D12.  We encourage you to facilitate the nomination of members and students who should be recognized for the contributions they are making.

Please use the accompanying nomination forms to identify the categories for nominating female members of District 12.  The category criteria are guidelines only; an individual nomination need not meet all criteria.  For each of your nominees:

·        Complete the applicable form attached (choose only one category)

·        Provide a 200-300 word paragraph, typewritten and double-spaced, explaining why she should be honoured

In order to ensure representation from across all regions of Toronto, there may be more than one recipient for each category.  The number and quality of nominations will dictate whether there are award recipients in each category or in every region.

Individual award recipients will be contacted by letter or telephone prior to the awards dinner.  Award recipients will be announced in a mailing to all sites.  The Status of Women Committee will complete the selection process in a manner that ensures representation across all regions of District 12.

à          Note:  Late or incomplete nominations cannot be considered

If you have any questions please call Suzanne Turcotte or Franca Bianchini at D12 office, telephone 416-393-8900.

à          Note:  If faxing nominations to D12 office, please keep a copy of the fax transmission verification record or call the office to ensure the fax has arrived.
