RE: May POR Posting
FROM: STBU EXECUTIVE
We are writing to advise you of the position of OSSTF respecting the POR vacancies for ACL of Social Science at Downsview SS and ACL for Visual Art at Rosedale Heights School of the Arts, which Employee Services has indicated will be included in the May 16 POR posting.
As reported at Council in April, the TDSB has taken the position that POR holders wishing a leave of absence must permanently resign their POR. OSSTF is grieving this decision.
OSSTF maintains that requiring POR holders to permanently resign their leadership position in order to go on a leave of absence is a contravention of the Collective Agreement and the Secondary Staffing (Blue) Binder.
Your Union Executive believes that all POR incumbents are entitled to return to their respective POR positions after an approved leave of absence, and that POR incumbents should not be forced to resign from their positions in order to take approved leaves of absence.
In the event this grievance is successful, OSSTF expects all affected incumbents will be reinstated to her/his position.
The decision as to whether to apply to these positions is an individual decision but the Federation is of the view that applicants should have all relevant information in determining whether or not to apply.
If you require further clarification, or you have been told you must resign your position in order to go on a leave, please contact your Executive Officer at the District Office, 416-393-8900.
